“I can’t possibly have breast cancer…,” says I…
It’s very surreal. NO, it’s REALLY more like REAL.
I have made a VERY deliberate choice (and after visiting with my husband, family and best friends) that I want to share this journey. I’ll get more into “IT”…(aka, the Opponent) WAY MORE later…but first things, first.
YES…this is REAL. I will be going through a double masectomy in the coming weeks. DAMMIT! In my own words…”It IS what it IS.”
Before getting into all the details…here is the WHY I am taking the time to share this. (Because all of you that know me, know me at all, or know me well…know that I have a SURPLUS amount of time. HAHA. Being married to the Head Baseball Coach of the Houston Cougars (GOCOOGS!!!). —{Couldn’t help it}…and having 5 children. Yes, 5! {Wouldn’t change it for the world}. So here is WHY I am starting and sharing this blog…{PS- I actually had to answer this question for myself first and then really dig…}. Here we go:
A). It just seems easier for me (and T, and our family) to get information out to our network/everyone. {As we are so fortunate to have}
B). I REALLY want ACCURATE information to be “out there.” As I teach in my social media classes…better to be PROACTIVE VS. REACTIVE.
C). I’m thinking this will actually prove to be therapeutic for me. While I fancy myself as a math/science person…I think it will be good. {So far…so good}
D). MOST IMPORTANTLY: If (and when)…I can reach one more gal that this journey helps and/or saves…I AM IN!!! And, it’s MORE than worth it to me.
Questions/Comments/Concerns???
I want to visit when you are up for it. And will be praying without ceasing for you my friend. Here if you need ANYTHING! ❤️U BIG!!

I was on your journey 6 years ago last Friday. While our lives are different, there are many similarities, wife, Mom, busy job, busy husband, devoted daughter, sister, etc. No cancer in our family, ever, until me. All this to say, you’ve got this. Six years from now, YOU will see how this experience can change you, yes, even for the better. In the darkest of what feel like life changing days, there will be the light of a God who loves you, your T, your amazing kids and your incredibly long list of loving friends and family. If you ever want to talk about it, I’m here. Six years strong. You will be, too. Sending much love ❤️ XOXO Robin

Well, there it is! First, you’re right, cancer sucks! And it really sucks when it takes parts of us that are unique to us girls (mine was the other lady parts). If given the option, of course we would choose not to have cancer, but you may be surprised at the positive things this will bring to your life. I have no doubt you will destroy this opponent. I can tell you that it made me a better person. If you want to talk about it, cry about it, yell about it, I’m there. It really did make me a better person though. It changed my priorities, my way of taking things head on, my ability to love the small things. You do have a great network, so please, please, please use us. My promise, lots of dinners (and some breakfasts if y’all let me intrude in the mornings) coming to your home posse from me, and absolutely anything else you, or any of the other 6 ask me for.

Tara you are, and always have been, an incredibly brave, positive and honest woman. As difficult as this is now you are blessed to have a loving and supportive husband, family and network of friends who will walk with you, and be there to carry you should you need to be, on this journey. Your positive outlook will inspire many and prayers for your recovery will be abundant. Sending a big hug and lots of love ❤️

Well you’re right Cancer sucks! I pray you caught it early and you heal quickly. I am a Cancer Registrar and if you need any information about treatment, drugs or doctors just ask. I know I am not in your area but I can always ask my physicians.

Dear Tara,
Hang in there, that’s all you really need to do. Gods grace will get you and your family through this nightmare. I agree with your other cancer survivor friends, having cancer will change your perspective. Rest a lot and listen to your doctors. I’m here for you ❤️ BK

You are the strongest most beautiful friend, mother, wife, daughter, sister that I know. You will get past this bump in your path successfully while helping others along your journey. I am glad you get mammograms regularly to find this cancer early and encourage others to get checked every year. Take deep breaths and surround yourself with everyone’s love for you, listen to your doctors as well as your own body. My heart is with you and your family. Wish I was there to bring you casseroles & desserts ❤️
